no more numb

My replacement bicycle seat.

I have a new bicycle. Well, not really new. My brother's, left at the back of the shed for the last 4 years. He won't ever use it, so I replaced the seat and made it mine (Thanks, Bro). It is a off-road bike, with great suspension.

I am sitting outside a beach cafe with my parents, drinking coffee and contemplating the blue horizon. There are cyclists passing us every couple of minutes.

"Do you prefer them big and fat?" asks my father.

"It gives a better ride" says my mother.

I am momentarily stunned, stiff with shock in my seat. A large man is parking his fancy bicycle against the low wall of the terrace and i realise they are looking at his tyres. I pinch my nose tight to hold back the giggles, not daring to look in their direction.

Parents eh? They certainly can embarass us... I cycle to work every day, what with increasin petrol prices and it keeps me fit... shattered actually but it has to be good for me some where... my bike seat is broader than the original one, I can't stand to have a numb bum after a couple of miles... we have to be kind to our touches ;)

Parents say the darnedest things!

I like the fact that you'd still get a bit embarrassed by that!

Oh very definitely, a little extra padding makes for a much nicer ride, indeed, it's very much my preference if I'm after a long fun ride.

What? Stop sniggering, you know exactly what I mean.

ooOOoo... nice saddle... I need one of those - I'm getting a bike this summer, and being a fat-bottomed girl, I need a saddle like that!

PS. Gotta love your parents and their comments! :D
